Placement: a follicle finds its new home
During a hair transplant, each follicular unit is placed into the recipient area at the angle and direction of natural hair. Beneath the skin, the follicle and its dermal papilla are what will produce the new hair.
BiologyThe dermal papilla at the base of the follicle receives nutrients from tiny blood vessels and signals the hair to grow.

02 / 08Days 1–10
Healing: the grafts settle
Small crusts form around each graft and usually fall away within about 7 to 10 days, helped by gentle washing. During this time the grafts anchor into the surrounding tissue.

03 / 08Weeks 2–6
Shedding: a normal pause
Most transplanted hairs shed in the first weeks. This is expected: the hair shaft falls out, but the follicle beneath the skin stays in place and prepares for a new growth cycle.
Good to knowThis shedding is often called shock loss. It is a normal part of the hair cycle after a transplant.

Reawakening: new hair breaks the surface
The follicle enters a new anagen phase. Cells in the hair matrix divide and the first fine new hairs begin to push through the skin, usually from around months 3 to 4.
Growth rateScalp hair typically grows around 1 cm per month once it is in the growth phase.

Early growth: hairs gain strength
New hairs grow longer and their shafts become thicker. Each strand is built from keratin in layers: the protective cuticle, the cortex and, in thicker hairs, the medulla.

Density builds
More follicular units enter the growth phase and density becomes noticeable. Hair grows in natural groups of one to four hairs, which is why careful placement creates a natural look.

The final result
