How to Choose a Hair Transplant Clinic in Turkey: A 12-Point Checklist
Turkey has many experienced hair transplant teams, but standards vary from clinic to clinic. Use this 12-point checklist to compare clinics on safety, medical involvement, transparency and aftercare before you book.
Every year, many people travel to Istanbul for a hair transplant. The city has highly experienced surgical teams, modern clinics and well-organised patient services. It also has clinics that cut corners. The result you get depends far less on the country you choose than on the clinic, the team and the plan made for you.
This checklist is designed to help you compare clinics objectively. You can use it with any clinic, including ours.
The short answer
A good hair transplant clinic in Turkey is a licensed medical facility where a doctor assesses you before giving a price, where you know exactly who performs each step of the procedure, where graft numbers are realistic for your donor area, where results are shown with consent and consistent photos, and where aftercare continues for at least 12 months.
The 12-point checklist
1. A licensed medical facility
Hair transplantation is surgery. In Türkiye, clinics that treat international patients are regulated by the Ministry of Health, and facilities offering health tourism services need the appropriate authorisation. Ask the clinic for its licence details and check that they match the clinic’s legal name and address. A trustworthy clinic shares this information openly.
2. You know who does what
Ask a direct question: who will examine me, who will design my hairline, who will make the incisions or implant the grafts, and who will extract them? Professional societies such as the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) have warned patients about clinics where unlicensed staff perform surgical steps without proper medical supervision. Clear answers are a good sign. Vague answers are not.
3. A medical assessment before a price
A reliable quote starts with an assessment of your hair loss pattern, your donor area and your medical history. Clinics that offer a fixed graft number before seeing clear photos of your head are guessing.
4. Realistic graft numbers and donor management
Your donor area is limited and does not regrow. A careful clinic explains how many grafts can be taken safely now, how much reserve you keep for the future, and how hair loss may progress over time. Very high graft promises in a single session should be discussed carefully, because over-harvesting can leave the donor area thin.
5. Techniques explained honestly
FUE and DHI are both established ways to perform a hair transplant. The names describe how grafts are extracted and implanted, not a guaranteed result. Ask why a technique is recommended for you, rather than choosing the one with the most attractive marketing name.
6. Experience with your hair type
Afro-textured, curly, very fine or grey hair can each need adjustments in extraction and planning. If your hair is tightly curled, ask how the team adapts extraction to curved follicles and ask to see results in similar hair types. Our guide to afro hair transplants explains why this matters.
7. Before and after photos you can trust
Good result photos are taken with consistent lighting and angles, show the donor area as well as the recipient area, and state how many months after surgery they were taken. They should only be published with the patient’s written consent. Be cautious with photos that look heavily edited or that only show freshly styled hair.
8. Reviews that can be verified
Read recent reviews on Google, look for reviews with photos and see how the clinic replies to them. A healthy profile has detailed, specific reviews spread over time, not a sudden burst of short, similar ones.
9. A clear written quote
Your quote should list what is included: the procedure, medication, the first wash, aftercare products, transfers and accommodation if offered, and follow-up. Ask what happens if more grafts are needed on the day and whether that changes the price.
10. Hygiene and safety standards
Ask how instruments are sterilised, how local anaesthesia is given and monitored, and what the clinic does in a medical emergency. Ask about the medical checks done before surgery, especially if you take regular medication.
11. Aftercare and follow-up for at least 12 months
The real result of a hair transplant appears 12 to 18 months after surgery. Choose a clinic that gives clear written aftercare instructions and stays in contact with you through the growth phase, including reviewing your progress photos.
12. Communication before you travel
You should be able to ask questions in your language, get answers in writing and know who your contact person is. Fast replies are helpful, but accurate replies matter more.
Red flags at a glance
| Red flag | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| A price and graft number before any assessment | Planning should follow an examination of your donor area and hair loss. |
| No clear answer about who operates | You have the right to know who performs each surgical step. |
| Guaranteed density or “100% success” | Results vary from person to person and no honest clinic can guarantee them. |
| Pressure to book quickly | A medical decision deserves time and a second opinion if you want one. |
| No licence details on request | A licensed clinic can share its authorisation without difficulty. |
| No aftercare after you fly home | Most questions arise in the weeks and months after surgery. |
Questions to ask in your consultation
- What is causing my hair loss, and is it stable?
- How many grafts do I need, and how many can my donor area safely provide?
- Who will design my hairline, and can I see the design before surgery?
- Which steps will the doctor perform personally?
- What result is realistic for me, and when will I see it?
- What aftercare and follow-up are included?

Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to have a hair transplant in Turkey?
It can be, when it is performed in a licensed medical facility by a qualified team with proper hygiene and medical supervision. Safety depends on the clinic you choose, which is why checking licences and who performs each step matters.
How do I check whether a clinic is licensed?
Ask the clinic for its licence and health tourism authorisation details, and check that the legal name and address match the clinic you are visiting. A licensed clinic shares this information openly.
Should the doctor perform the whole procedure?
Doctors should assess the patient, plan the treatment and remain responsible for the surgery. Ask each clinic exactly which steps the doctor performs personally and how the team is supervised.
How long should aftercare last?
Because the final result usually appears 12 to 18 months after surgery, follow-up should continue for at least the first year.
